Sherri Benton Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Haleigh and I am the daughter of Sherri Krieg-Benton. My brother, Brad, and I have created this fund in the hopes of receiving help with our mom's medical bills, bills, etc.

On December 16th, 2022, our mom traveled from her home in Tennessee to visit us for Christmas. She had complained of a horrible headache the entire time she was here and ended up cutting her trip short, driving 6 hours back home on December 18th. The next day, she still has this massive headache - lasting 4 days at this point - and decided to go to Urgent Care, who diagnosed her with a sinus infection.

However, the next day, December 20th, 2022, my mom was taken to the ER for this persisting headache. Once there, CT scans showed she did not have a sinus infection but instead had a brain bleed. She was then life-flighted to Tristar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee which was more capable of treating this type of brain injury. While at Tristar, our mother suffered 2 large strokes - the first happening on December 26th and the second happening between December 29th and January 1st. The hospital in Nashville informed her loved ones that they believed she had an auto-immune disorder, needed a Rheumatologist to look at her case and were informed she would need special chemotherapy, something Tristar hospital didn't have.

After multiple unsuccessful hospital transfers requests to the Saint Louis area, our mom was transported to the University of Louisville Medical Center on January 11th, where she currently is still staying until we can get her accepted into a rehabilitation center - most likely in the Louisville area. Neurologists are anticipating an acute rehab facility and she will be ready to come home within a month or so.

The damage to her brain is "massive" according to multiple neurologists and due to this damage, her lower extremities have atrophied and our mom is unable to walk or even stand without assistance. As well as having some motor function delays, she also has impaired vision which only allows her to see outlines of objects, colors and movement. Cognitively, her team of doctors advised that there are slight deficits as well. During the entire incident, our mom has NOT lost the ability to speak, she's as talkative as ever, but there are some slight memory delays that can be noticed when time is spent with her. The team of doctors, nurses and hospital staff all believe she can make a full recovery and return to normal life, but only time and our mom's hard work will tell what her "new" normal will look like.

Our mom, Brad and I are reaching out to not only inform our friends and loved ones of what's going on but also to simply ask for help. We don't know how much we will need or how much the medical bills will end up being, but anything and everything helps. Asking for help is not something Brad and I do very easily, but here we are and we are so incredibly grateful for every single message, phone call, donation, prayer, etc. that we have received regarding our mom's health.

The money raised in this fundraiser will be handled by Brad and myself to be used towards our mom's bills, medical bills, transports, etc.
