Sherry Coody's Open Heart Surgery

When thinking about our mom, a handful of words come to mind: beautiful, accepting, honest, smart, humble, caring, gracious, hardworking, kind, reliable, selfless, supportive, thoughtful, the list goes on. Though over the last month, the word to describe her best has to be brave. To be 'brave', by definition, is one who is "ready to face and endure danger or pain; by showing courage." And since she received the news of her open heart surgery, she has been nothing but courageous and has shown Sage, Wade, and I strength and confidence we didn't know existed. Our mom's heart is our favorite thing about her - something we wish more people had. A heart that gives without asking, loves without limitations, and beats so hard for her kids. Her heart has provided for us our whole lives, and now it's our turn to do whatever we can to protect it.
The week before Thanksgiving, our mom experienced chest pain. Fast forward three weeks, and after numerous days spent in Mission Hospital, we received the news that she needs to have open heart surgery to repair her mitral valve. She will spend nearly ten days in the hospital and be out of work for eight weeks following. Being a hairdresser in California, it's no surprise this year has done some damage to her career. She'd never ask for help, so here we are, taking a leap of faith and asking family, friends, and strangers to help our mom through the scariest time of our lives. To help her with unexpected hospital expenses and monthly bills to keep her on her feet. To give her a sense of relief going into surgery that she will have a home to come back to after being alone in a hospital bed for over a week. And most importantly, to show her that she's worth fighting for and that she isn't fighting this alone.
Between bills and rent, she will rack up a total of nearly 15K before March in what she owes. We would appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts if you could donate even $5 towards her surgery. We know this has been a difficult year for everyone, but every dollar helps. If not money, prayers for a painless and quick recovery are also just as valued. We thank anyone and everyone who has landed on this page and wish you a happy and healthy new year.
