Help For Shi Sho's Family

A lot of people from Myanmar know who Dr. Cynthia Maung is but far fewer people have heard of her younger, quiet brother Saw Shi Sho. Shi Sho is the 5th of 7 kids. His father was a health assistant and managed to put Shi Sho and his sister through medical college in Myanmar. Shi Sho was well liked by students and teachers in medical school.
After graduation, he started a private medical practice. In 1997, he left his thriving practice to join his sister Dr. Cynthia Maung's Mae Tao clinic in Mae Sot near the Thai-Myanmar border. There he worked to provide free health care for thousands of refugees, migrant workers, and individuals of all ethnicities and religions who crossed the border from Burma to Thailand. He also contributed as a trainer for medics. He was loved by many people there.
In 2008 Shi Sho immigrated to USA, where he declined help and started working in factories. In 2012, he married Greenmay Paw, who also came from the refugee camp. They settled in St Paul, Minnesota. Their daughter Pawkle Shee (6) wants to be a nurse and their son Bludoh Shee (4) wants to be a policeman.
A month ago, Greenmay started feeling sick. The symptoms were nonspecific and she wasn't able to get tested for COVID. Shi Sho started having headaches two weeks later. He wasn't suspecting COVID, but on Monday May 11, 2020, he was admitted to the hospital. 2 days later, he was in ICU. Before being put on the ventilator, he called Greenmay. He wanted to make sure that the rent for their apartment was paid. He asked her to take good care of the kids.
He has been on the ventilator for over two weeks and is fighting for his life. With limited resources and a great language barrier, Greenmay struggles. Shi Sho is the only provider of the family, and Greenmay speaks very little English or Burmese. The refugee community tries to help, but the community itself is hit hard by COVID.
We know everyone is struggling right now, but this family has done so much for so many, and now they really need help. Please contribute as much as you are able to help support Greenmay and the children until Shi Sho is able to recover and provide for his family again.
