32 years old is too young for breast cancer. You’re overthinking it. You’re not at risk right now. You’re fine. Go home and relax.
Praise God she didn’t listen.
Late last year Shianne felt what no woman ever wants to feel- a lump. She’s a 32 year old momma to the two sweetest girls. She’s a wife to a hard working man. While she wanted to brush her findings off as simply anxiety and overthinking, it ate at her. So in January 2022 she mentioned the lump to her doctor at her yearly womanly appointment. She was told to not worry about it. She was told she was too young. She was told to just stop drinking caffeine. She was told a worrisome lump wouldn’t present with pain and with seemingly changing size/shape. A temporary weight was lifted.
As time passed and with her roles of mom, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend in the back of her mind, Shianne couldn’t let the thought go that something could be wrong. She wanted to be sure she was okay and healthy for the people in her life who need her. That’s just how Shianne is. So she scheduled what the doctors called an elective, voluntary ultrasound. On Wednesday, March 30th Shianne was excited to get the test over with and move on with her busy life with a stronger peace of mind.
Unfortunately that is not how her day went. That ultrasound revealed troubling images. A mammogram was ordered that day. That mammogram turned into the words you never want to hear- we think it’s cancer. After an agonizing 7 days of waiting, the biopsy revealed her worst fears- it was indeed cancer. Invasive ductal carcinoma HER2+.
Her world froze but as we know, life keeps moving. Surgery. Radiation. Hormone therapy. Test after test after test being scheduled.
FMLA will allow her husband to be home and by her side some, but it’s without pay. She will be traveling multiple times a week over 45 minutes one way to her appointments- sometimes over double those miles. As we all know, gas is not cheap. Eating while on the road is not cheap either. Medical bills have already begun to roll in and the days her husband has to take off work without pay are fast approaching. He’s the sole income earner for their family.
Shianne would be the last person to ask for help. That’s why we’ve created this for her- so she doesn’t have to ask. Anything you’re able to give will be accepted with such a grateful heart. Every little bit will help ease the financial strain this diagnosis forces their precious family to face. Every donation allows them to focus on recovery and not bills and expenses.
Please share Shianne’s story so that another woman may find the courage to step up and go against what a medical professional is telling her. Share her story so that in the midst of her trial, Shianne can be a light for someone else. Share her story so another woman’s concerns are not dismissed and silenced.
Most importantly we ask that you pray for Shianne and her family as she goes through what is likely going to the hardest battle they’ve had to fight. Pray for peace. Pray for healing. Pray for comfort. Pray for wisdom. Pray for her babies. Pray for her husband. Pray for strength.
