SEUSKF & AUSKF Medical Fund for Shinobu Maeda
Donation protected
The SEUSKF & AUSKF have set up this fundraiser to help cover some of the expenses incurred by the Maeda family in response to the recent medical emergency of Shinobu Maeda. Maeda sensei has served on the SEUSKF board of directors for more than 15+ years and was AUSKF President at the time of his medical emergency. Maeda sensei suffered a cardiac arrest at a recent SEUSKF Team tryout in Nashville, TN on March 25th. Thanks to the quick actions of the attending kenshi and their knowledge of life-saving CPR, the use of an AED, and immediate calls to 911 he was able to survive. He was rushed to the hospital and has undergone treatment, with more plans. From the recent reports he is doing much better and we all hope for a complete recovery. Unfortunately, this episode will be costly, not only for medical expenses but also for family travel expenses from Florida to Tennessee, rehabilitation expenses and associated costs. As you know, insurance does not cover everything. Maeda sensei has given so much to all of us involved with kendo, now it is our time to show our respect and love by simply chipping in what you can afford to give to help cover his expenses. Please be aware, although this is being sponsored by the SEUSKF and AUSKF, your donations are not tax deductible as they will go directly to Kathryn and Shinobu Maeda. We are starting with a goal of US$25,000 which has subsequently been increased to $70,000. We would all be delighted if we can meet or exceed this figure. Be aware that GoFundMe does have a slight charge for each donation, 2.9% plus 30 cents. If you can donate any amount, thank you. If you are unable to afford a donation, please keep Maeda sensei and his family in your thoughts. If you have any questions regarding this fundraising effort please contact SEUSKF Secretary, Mike Watson. In closing, I would like to pass on this message from Maeda sensei's wife, Kathryn Maeda. She would like to thank all those involved in their efforts to save his life and also to make sure everyone realizes just how important quick action can be to save a life. Please take the time to learn how to administer CPR and use an AED. Thank you all for your time and your kindness.
