Shirley’s Life Fund: Fighting Cancer

Steve Weaver and Heather Medema are fundraising for their beautiful, bold, funny and kind sister, Shirley Pierce, to help cover costs of living and medical treatment not covered by insurance. Shirley was diagnosed with Stage 4 cervical cancer in August 2023 after experiencing vague symptoms. Although she desperately wanted to continue working, she needed all her reserves to immediately begin the initial regimen of combined radiation and chemotherapy to fight the disease found in her cervix, lymph nodes, liver and bones. Shirley finished that initial regimen, and then months of subsequent rounds of chemotherapy until her body reached its limits. She is unable to take any more traditional chemotherapy due to adverse effects, but she continues on immunotherapy. We were so happy to report that as of April 2024, the cancer had not advanced and some tumors were gone! In June, the news was not as encouraging. (See latest update.)

Unfortunately, all of her personal finances have been depleted and government assistance funds do not provide nearly enough to pay her minimum bills. We are asking if others will consider helping continue support to our precious sister in this battle by donating to her life fund. Shirley has always been generous in giving or helping others in need. It’s her turn to receive. Any amount is helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

PS: Steve is listed as beneficiary by GoFundMe because he is managing Shirley’s accounts. He has fiduciary responsibility. Finances are a source of stress, and we wanted her to focus solely on her health right now. All money will go to Shirley’s accounts for her medical and living expenses.
