Shivam does a hike for underprivileged kids in India

Thanks for visiting my fundraiser!
I'm trying to raise money for impoverished kids in India with Asha for Education. Asha funds a variety of projects that aims to bring education and a brighter future to disadvantaged children in India.
I'm aiming for an ambitious $10k fundraising goal. Roughly, I want to fund the salary of 7 teachers who will teach young girls. I believe that the most pressing issue in India is supporting women, as it not only addresses significant suffering of a marginalized group, but will have downstream social and economic benefits for India. I am also targeting a visit to India in 2025 to see the schools in person and gain a deeper understanding of what the impact of these funds are and future things to work on. I see this mission as a lifelong one. All of your funds will go to Asha - I'm funding the hike myself.
This mission is important to me for a variety of reasons. I visited India frequently while growing up and saw the effects of poverty firsthand. The children in India are no different than children in America and deserve the chance to flourish just as any other child. Second, my father came from humble means and studied hard so that he could provide his family a good life. I've benefited greatly from his academic hard work and I'd like to help other young kids in India do the same. This mission is a tribute to the hard work of my parents.
I've chosen to do a hike for a few reasons. I've always been quite bad at cardio and endurance sports. I was diagnosed as prediabetic in the summer of 2023 and have been working on losing weight. Why not tie my health goals to a cause that matters to me? Climbing a mountain also holds a symbolic importance to me of overcoming challenges, and finding some way to help underpriveleged children is a challenge I'd like to tackle and overcome.
Please donate! I'll be updating this page frequently and hope to bring you on my journey.
