Shiway and Sadie Barry Memorial at Chester Park

Hi, this is Liz, Halee, and Anjela, friends and sister of the Barry family. We are fundraising to create a memorial for Shiway and Sadie, while also improving the Chester Park playground. Just a mile from where they lived, this park was a loved destination for Sadie and Shiway, Sean and Riana, for weekly homeschool park day gatherings. Shiway would swing, Sadie would spin or play in the sand, or they would join in a group game in the field. It was a welcome time of adult socializing as well, where community and friendship grew over the years.

This is the plan from the city to "improve the enjoyment, accessibility, and safety of the Chester Park playground:"

--Replacement of the spinner element in the playground

--A wheelchair-accessible crushed stone path from accessible parking spaces to the playground

--An adjoining memorial bench on a permanent cement footing with memorial signage wording and style to be determined

--Removal and replacement of non-function fall zone safety material

--Replacement of edging around the playground.

--Upgrade of one swing bay to include an accessible swing with connecting accessible trail.

Installation is likely to happen in July.

Our benefit to help with fundraising is set for Saturday, May 20, 3:00 to 6:00 pm at The Other Place Bar and Grill in Duluth. We will be accepting donations for a silent auction.
