Anna's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart that we share this story of Joseph, Esther and their precious 2-year-old daughter Anna as their lives were suddenly turned upside down. Ten days before Christmas of 2020, they received news no parent should ever hear. Doctors diagnosed Anna with a very rare form of cancer presuming to be Neuroblastoma.
The family, who reside in Japan, decided to seek further tests and treatment at Children's Hospital Colorado. Doctors spent the first several weeks conducting biopsies, health screenings, and tests. During that time, the tumor had grown putting pressure on Anna's brain, paralyzing the left side of her face. For the next 5 months, Anna completed 8 cycles of chemotherapy. In May 2021, doctors gave us the news we've been praying for, saying she is cancer-free.
On August 16th, 2021 the day before her 2nd Birthday, Anna relapsed and the presence of the cancer had grown in the same location behind her head. The advice from their Oncology Team was they were back to square one.
Within a few days, Joe and Esther decided to transfer Anna's care over to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) where they have a team of specialists and researchers in Neuroblastoma and other pediatric cancers. Anna has since received a biopsy, screens, and further tests. Though it is presumably Neuroblastoma, doctors say this cancer does not act like it and they're working hard to pinpoint what it is so they can give Anna the best and safe treatment possible. Anna is currently on her first cycle of chemotherapy and is doing well. It was necessary to have Anna start therapy to stop the tumor from growing and allow more time and planning for the next steps towards recovery.
We established this fundraiser to spread the awareness of childhood cancer and contribute to the research of Anna's journey along with many other children's journey at the Pediatric Cancer Research, Children's Hospital Colorado, and CHOP.
From the bottom of our hearts, we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family. We also ask that you keep Joseph, Esther, Anna and medical professionals in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you for your love and support, may God bless each and every one of you.
