Shockers going to World Series!

Donation protected
For the first time in over 50 years, Southside Ball is going to the Dizzy Dean World Series! The 8-year-old team, the Southside Shockers, have been invited to the World Series!

The World Series is held in Southaven, Mississippi starting July 19. We need your help to send these kids and their families to Mississippi!

Money raised will help cover hotel costs and ancillary costs of participating in the World Series for the 15 families of the Shockers. The World Series starts July 19 and runs through the 25th.

Southside ball is a recreational youth baseball and softball program that focuses on development of the players on and off of the field that operates on 100% volunteer power. It is truly a unique youth sports program. The amount of support that this program receives from parents, families, and the communities it serves allows for this program to continue to grow and maintain its mission of "development first". Players at Southside Ball learn the game, but more importantly they learn about fair play, respecting each other, and being a team. The Shockers have a team cheer that can be heard whenever they play: "Whose got my back? I've got your back!"

Southside baseball has been a part of our community since 1953. It is where some of the best life lessons are learned. In the past 10 years, Southside Ball Association has gone from enrolling less than 100 players per season to over 350 in the Spring 2017 season. As other recreational ball programs are decreasing in enrollment (largely due to increasing participation in travel ball programs), Southside continues to attract more participants. In addition, Southside Ball Association membership includes families from over 45 zip codes spanning the greater Birmingham Area. Southside Ball players represent a vast diversity of socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Southside prides itself on working hard to not turn players away and ensuring that all kids play the game.

Our goal is to raise enough funds to cover the costs of hotel, travel, and ancillary fees associated with World Series Participation for all 15 families associated with the Shockers. The Dizzy Dean World Series for the 8 year olds begins July 19.
