Short film ‘dear ocean; I love you’

Hey, I’m Tamia. I spent a while, deciding what I wanted to do with my future. I think I always knew that film was an industry I wanted to work in, I was just scared of pursuing a career and not having any success in it.
I decided to start studying film recently and I am directing a short with a talented group of emerging filmmakers. This film is going to be entered into a short film festival in July, to hopefully get our names out there!
the story:
‘Dear ocean; I love you’ , is a coming of age story set in the 90s, it follows a woman as she reflects on her life and comes to terms with the romantic feelings she had for her best friend.
As teenagers, Fleur and Cordelia are inseparable, finding comfort within each other, as their differing personalities balance each other out. The beach becomes ‘their spot’, where they spend most of their time together, and feel they can truly be themselves.
During their final years of high school Fleur begins to date their classmate scotty. Scotty’s constant presence causes tension within Fleur and Cordelia’s relationship.
At their graduation party, Fleur and Cordelia walk to the beach to escape the chaos of their peers and make the most of their last night together.
The next day, Cordelia leaves for her university as they promise to stay in touch, though there is a tone of finality and empty promises as awkwardness grows between them.
The two girls fail to stay in touch; though Cordelia attempts to stay connected with Fleur, Fleur withdraws from her attempts, insecure about the growing differences in their lives as she feels stuck in her hometown, unable to progress further in life.
Fleur continues to date Scotty, though their relationship is fracturing and ultimately culminates in a heated argument about Fleur's distant behaviour — a result of her inability to accept her love for Cordelia.
She goes to the same beach she would with Cordelia, and reflects on her inability to accept herself, realising it prevented her from living the life she wished she had.

What inspired this film?
We started with the idea of the ocean being used as a metaphor for acceptance and built on it from there.
We wanted to tell a story that showed the struggles of growing up and figuring yourself out. And show that sometimes you don’t really properly find yourself until later in life and that’s okay. There’s a lot of pressure put on young people to have everything figured out straight away. But I think life is just continuously figuring out who you are, and growing, and reflecting, and then finding yourself again. The beauty in it, is the fact that every day is different, we grow, we change, and we have the ability to do that at any point in our life.
The point is, we are really passionate about the story we have to tell, and super excited that we have the opportunity to be able to share it with people. We have a really strong vision for the film, and to be able to realise that vision the best we can, we need your help.
All of the money raised will go towards hiring equipment and facilities to make the film as well as providing catering for our actors and crew. Our goal at the moment is $5000 any money raised over this amount will be used to further aid in gathering equipment and resources to make the film.
Any kind of contribution is greatly appreciated, no matter how small, it’s all helpful in realising our vision. We are so thankful for your support!!
