Hi,

Our names are Sofia and Jordan. We are two film students in Berlin trying to raise a budget for our graduation film called Factory of broken tires - Rikkinäisten renkaiden tehdas. Here is a little info about it!

Story:

Helena lives a lonesome and stagnant life in a little town in Finland and struggles to get mental health help. She works at the local tire factory and reflects on her coworkers who are tinged with melancholy but nevertheless humorous, all trying to hide from their pain. Helena gets tired of hiding and decides to take matters into her own hands. She decides to throw a party – but what for?

Why:

The subject of mental health and the importance of therapy continues to be a hot topic nowadays, it seems. But what about those, who for one reason or another seem unable to get mental health help? Maybe there aren't enough resources; not enough money, time, health or energy. Maybe there aren't enough doctors and therapists available. Maybe there is still stigma and a lack of ability to talk about feelings and problems.

The current worldwide political climate has made the lives of many even harder. The story is based in Finland, where the situation isn't any better. The topic is a universal one, even if the story takes place in a specific, peculiar tiny town in Finland, in a small tire factory.

What makes it special:

The film has lots of visual metaphors, and its strength lies in the powerful elements of cars, tires, flow and stagnation. Its bittersweet and unapologetic, poetic and unpolished style offers the audience a great chance to question themselves and their place in the world.

Nimemme ovat Sofia ja Jordan. Olemme kaksi elokuvaopiskelijaa Berliinistä, jotka yrittävät kerätä budjettia lopputyöelokuvallemme Rikkinäisten renkaiden tehdas. Tässä vähän tietoa!

Tarina:

Helena elää yksinäistä ja melko pysähtynyttä elämää pienessä suomalaisessa kylässä yrittäen löytää apua mielenterveydellisiin ongelmiinsa. Hän työskentelee rengastehtaalla ja heijastelee itseään tehtaan melankolissävytteisistä, mutta humoristisista kollegoista, jotka jokainen pakoilee omaa pahaa oloaan turruttamalla tunteensa eri keinoin. Helena kyllästyy pakoiluun ja päättää ottaa ratin omiin käsiinsä. Hän päättää järjestää juhlat – mutta mitä varten?

Miksi:

Mielenterveys ja terapian merkitys vaikuttavat olevan edelleen kuuma aihe tänäpäivänä. Mutta entä ne, jotka syystä tai toisesta eivät saa mielenterveysapua? Ehkä resurssit eivät riitä; ehkei ole tarpeeksi rahaa, aikaa, terveyttä tai energiaa. Ehkä lääkäreitä ja terapeutteja ei ole tarpeeksi saatavilla. Ehkä edelleen on stigmaa ja kyvyttömyyttä puhua tunteista ja ongelmista ääneen.

Nykyinen maailmanlaajuinen poliittinen ilmapiiri on vaikeuttanut monien ihmisten elämää entisestään. Tarina sijoittuu Suomeen, jossa tilanne ei ole yhtään sen parempi. Aihe on universaali, vaikka tarina sijoittuukin tiettyyn, omalaatuiseen pikkukaupunkiin, pienelle rengastehtaalle.

Mikä tekee elokuvasta erityisen:

Elokuva sisältää paljon visuaalisia metaforia, ja sen vahvuus piilee autojen, renkaiden, virtauksen ja pysähtyneisyyden vahvoissa elementeissä. Sen katkeransuloinen ja anteeksipyytelemätön, runollinen ja hiomaton tyyli tarjoaa katsojalle erityisen mahdollisuuden pohtia itseänsä ja paikkaansa maailmassa.
