Shoshana's back surgery
Donation protected
On December 7th I am getting back surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC.
For those that know me, you know that I have lived with chronic pain and severe flair ups for the last 8 years due to a traumatic injury I sustained. I am thrilled to have finally found a doctor that I trust, who listens and takes a minimalist approach that respects my identity as a dancer and mover. I am so hopeful about the freedom and comfort that awaits my body after this procedure. Of course, such a gift does not come free. I am raising funds to support my portion of the medical bills, train travel back and forth for myself and my family as I am not able to sit in a car, and two weeks of living and eating in the city for myself and my caregiver.
One of the hardest lessons of my injury has been to ask for the help I need without guilt or shame. Not being able to be as physically self sufficient as I prided myself on being previously forced me to learn new lessons about communities of support, healthy interdependence, and deeper levels of friendship. It remains an interesting challenge for me to ask for this help, even as I am stretching toward what may be a resolution to years of pain.
I am inviting you into my circle of care, with full appreciation of the many forms care can take, and the many things to care for in the world right now. If you are not able to contribute at this time, warm messages and connection are welcome as I quietly and softly recover.
