Show Love and Support for Alexa Moreno's New Life

My name is David Moreno, a law enforcement officer in the State of Utah. Some of you know me from work-related functions, others from community events, and others from just serving and protecting the community.

Unfortunately, this weekend my daughter, Alexa Moreno, was transported via ambulance to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, with hyperglycemia symptoms. This moment has changed her life forever. We received the news from the doctors that from now on, she will have type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that occurs when the body's immune system destroys the pancreas' insulin-producing cells. Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels and allows cells to use blood sugar for energy. Without insulin, blood sugar builds up in the bloodstream, which can lead to serious health problems.

This is all new to our family, even though it's a pretty common disease. Lexi is scared and will need a lot of support from family to deal with this life-changing disease as she adapts to a new life. As a parent, I'm struggling with thoughts like, "Why not me? Why her?" As a parent, you never want to see your children go through something like this. You want them to just be normal and enjoy life. This will take time to adapt. She doesn't understand this is more common than she thinks.

I thought of this idea of a GoFundMe to raise a bit of money for her, but more than the money, I wanted to show her the support, the love, and all the people that are behind her that support her and love her as she adapts to a new life.
