Surpport a Street Connected Child This Christmas

My name is Habibatu Mohammed and I am 14 years old.I live at Swalaba in the heart of Accra Central with my aunt, cousins, younger sister, and my grandfather who is visually impaired. I share a room with my aunt.
At Swalaba some people live in nice buildings while others live in stores. Most people in my area like using profane words and insulting others. Some of my age mates in my area are now parents. I feel sad when I see my friends abused and impregnated. Most of the boys in my area like smoking and drinking alcohol.
But nevertheless I like my area, they always welcome visitors with open arms.
“Habibatu is a very clever girl with sickle cell anemia. I am always happy when I see Habibatu speaking English and French fluently. Habibatu’s father died in prison many years ago, but she does not want to accept that her father has died in prison. Her mother and I have been trying to make her understand but she is still in the state of denial. I believe Habibatu will become someone better in the future if given the support.” Victoria, Habibatu's aunt
My mother helps someone in a hairdressing salon. She tries her best to send money for my upkeep. Sometimes it is very hard to get money for food. I sell choco milo on the streets to be able to go to school when my mother doesn’t have money. I earn between 2 to 5 Cedis a day. Sometimes I stay out of school for one week.

However, I want to stay in school always because education is the key to better life, without it I can’t become a better person. I want to become a scientist or an engineer. I love reading science books. After school, I visit the Learning Hub at SCEF to learn and borrow some books. I like coming to SCEF because they care about children like me.I want to have the chance to continue going to school because I want to improve myself. I want to follow my dream.
SCEF has rescued over 450 street connected children, and provided 20,000 hours of supplementary learning over the past years. SCEF’s Learning Hub also serves over 10,000 children in James Town and Accra Central providing them with educational and creative learning opportunities.
