Show Solidarity in Vasai-Virar, India

With the global pandemic of COVID-19, communities and economies everywhere are facing an unprecedented challenge, but we are also experiencing solidarity and support like never before! Some people are staying home to keep loved ones safe and to slow the spread of this vicious disease; others with essential roles like grocers, farmers, healthcare workers, and public officials are risking exposure to care for their communities and our loved ones. For their dedication, we are unwaveringly grateful.

As business owners in the region, we have been working with the people of this community for over a decade. Many of our company's team members live in this area and this is our opportunity to give back to a community that has given us so much. Raising funds in this part of the town is not easy. We are asking everyone to come together and contribute what you can to support this community now. Nishant Patel and Neha Sampat (fundraiser organizers) have committed to matching all contributions up to $70,000 USD to help us reach the goal of raising a total of $140,000 USD. 

Vasai-Virar is faced with a unique challenge as compared to many local Indian communities. With transportation on lockdown, many workers are stranded far from their homes without the luxury or privilege of being sheltered safe with their families. They are fighting this pandemic without food or shelter, and in many cases, without access to proper healthcare. Necessity forces many to work, risking exposure - just to be able to feed themselves or their families.

We are working with a trusted local organization with a goal to raising the funds by the end of May. This organization is called Vishnu Waman Thakur Charitable Trust and they have committed to feeding over one million people in this region. The Trust is also committed to providing PPE and additional facilities for overrun health institutions for the isolation and care of COVID-19 patients. Every dollar will go to a good cause and support COVID relief locally.

Note: Donors based in India are eligible for tax exemption. Please donate through Milaap instead  to qualify.
Because the trust is based in India, residents of other countries will not be eligible for a tax exemption.
