Many of you may not be aware but our good friend Dano Newbill was recently diagnosed with cancer. As a part of the treatment process he underwent Chemo with a highly neurotoxic drug called Oxalaplatin and Capecetabine. Chemo drugs essentially kill all your good cells while attempting to take out the tumor. During the second round of 6 chemo treatments Dan lost his appetite, became extremely dehydrated and was admitted to the hospital for an extreme infection in his colon related to a low white blood cell count. He was unable to eat for 3 weeks, was on multiple antibiotics and was fed through an iv in his neck. During this time he had extreme nausea, vomiting and diarrhea which knocked his weight down from 190 lbs to 150 lbs. Eventually he was discharged home but was unable to walk without the aid of a cane due to extreme muscle wasting during chemo and his subsequent hospitalization. Dan will need to gain strength at home before continuing on to radiation and further chemo treatment followed by surgery to attempt to remove the tumor. This will be a grueling year-long process.
Many of you know Dano from the paddling, Rugby and Real Estate communities. He always reached out to those in need and never questioned when someone needed a hand up. Whether it be financial assistance to his braddahs, a place to crash or a referral for a job, he always is helping others. Now it's time to help our brother, his wife and 3 year old son, Noah. With a severe reaction to chemo and hospitalization Dano had to turn down quite a bit of business and has mounting bills that must be paid to ensure his family's future. Please kokua if you can and donate to Dano as he would to you. Your support will mean so much to Dano and his family.
