Showing Up for Shumpert

Hey, friends. My name is Allison and I’m a long term friend of Russell Shumpert. We’ve been through all of life’s seasons and he’s certainly “shown up” for me and my family on numerous occasions. To know Russell is to love him. To know Russell is to know a hero, a father, a son, a brother and a friend. To know Russell is to witness the grace of God, the promise of true love and a laugh so contagious you cannot help but laugh along. To know Russell is a gift, a blessing and a showing of strength so unheard of, I don’t even have words.

Right now, Russell and his family need us. It’s time we are the ones that show up. Russell is using every ounce of his being to recover, to regain strength and to heal. He is working as hard as any human can work to return home after EIGHT brain surgeries/procedures in the last two months, all the result of a rapidly growing brain tumor we thought he had battled successfully nearly eight years ago. The cancer may be back but so is Russell’s determination to overcome.

Stephanie and Russell have been in NYC since early August. Hotel fees, transportation, and meals alone have begun to add up and this doesn’t even begin to include medical related costs. We’re hopeful Russell will return home in the next week or so but the road to recovery is long.

It’s our turn, friends.

Lets’s help our hero.

Let’s lift some of the burden and be the hands and feet he’s always been for us.
