The Gooch Family Fund

There are so many people who have had their lives touched by James and Betsy Gooch over the years.  James (or "Gooch," as pretty much everyone calls him) is one of those people who, as the saying goes, really never met a stranger.  The Gooch family are some of the most caring and helpful people we know, and they are undergoing a truly disheartening patch in their lives right now.

THE BAD NEWS:

On June 9th, James suffered a heart attack at the age of 44 years old.  Considering he has always been very healthy and active, it came as a complete surprise.  Honestly, we weren't sure he was going to make it.  Through the amazing work of his doctors, his own determination (and stubbornesss :) ), and the prayers of so so many people, James pulled through.  But not before having to undergo a double bypass and spending almost a week in the hospital.

Unfortunately, the heart attack did more damage to his heart than we all thought.  A couple of weeks ago, James started having trouble breathing.  Doctors found that one of the bypasses failed, and the front part of his heart is not working.  He is currently in the hospital, and the family are weighing options for surgery to install a temporary heart pump to keep his heart functioning and a longer-term goal of a heart transplant.  James is set to be in the hospital for at least another 3 weeks, and he will be needing a lot of help from Betsy when he gets home.

As most of you know, James was a bondsman and a process server in Faulkner County for many years.  He gave up being a bailbondsman a couple years ago and supported his family through his income as a Process Server.  That job required (and requires) a lot of physical effort, stress, and other exertion, which is going to make it impossible for James to continue working in that capacity when he is out of the hospital.  Also, as most of you know, Betsy works in the office at Conway Obstetrics & Gynecology.

THE GOOD NEWS:

The Gooch's are a family of Faith.  They have faith in God, and as James would tell you, he has always had faith in his friends.  So we are asking for help for this family who can really use it right now.  With the kids in college and now being a one-income family, it is going to be impossible for Betsy to meet the family's financial obligations.  If any of you has ever had a serious illness in your family, you also know how important it is that the family be able to worry about working on James' health, not worrying about groceries, the electric bill, and the mortgage.

Everyone that knows James and Betsy knows that they would do (and often have done) the same for any of their friends in need.  Now is THEIR time of need.  So please give what you can.  No amount is too small.  The big guy with the big heart is now in need of yours.
