SHRIEEK short film fundraiser

My name is Marcelle Marais and I'm a Director/Screenwriter based out of Oakland CA.

I'm excited to share that we are making a supernatural horror short film, SHRIEEK!!

Logline: Suzanne, a young housewife isolated to her life on a farm and stuck in an abusive relationship with her husband, finds herself lured into the forest by a supernatural being and forced to face her deepest desires for escape.

Our Mission Statement:

I strongly believe in the transformative powers of art and creativity and feel that film is one of the greatest mediums to do that with. This film holds a mirror up to the places that are meant to be safe that often end up becoming locations of trauma, like the home and family. Through the journey of our protagonist, Suzanne, we witness her struggles, her fears, and her isolation and how she is able to transform and find strength with the aid of Mother Nature and the supernatural. I want people to see the innate capabilities we all have to overcome our darkest moments. Humans are capable of immense transformation and healing and I want this film to reflect those possibilities to the viewer.

I chose the genre of horror because it allows us to confront our fears and tap in to visceral experiences of transformation in very powerful ways. This is not a film about jump scares or gory killings, but rather a brooding descent into the underbelly of mystery and the primal forces of Mother Nature’s strengths.

FILM SUMMARY:
Suzanne is trapped in an abusive relationship and has a longing for escape. She is emotionally withdrawn and shut down. Her life is isolated to an existence within the walls of the farmhouse she shares with her husband, Joe. He is a local sheriff and his department is currently searching for several missing persons. One night, Joe is called in to work and instructs Suzanne to stay inside. Later that night, Suzanne finds herself lured into the forest by a supernatural being. Through a thrilling chase of predator and prey in the forest, the supernatural being transfers new powers to Suzanne possessing her with primal strengths. Joe comes home early from work and finds Suzanne outside the house, resulting in
a physical confrontation. Suzanne runs into the forest and together with the supernatural being she shifts into her new powers and fiercely confronts Joe in a violent and redemptive conclusion where Suzanne is set free.
