SHSM Supports Mikki

Part of our collective strength is our ability to rally behind causes that are important to our Stay Home Stay Motivated (SHSM) community. We offer opportunities to give back by raising awareness and contributing financially to members in need of additional support.

Meet Mikki (who needs no introduction)

Our beloved friend and longtime SHSM member @MikkiShowsUp would greatly benefit from our support to help cover expenses related to mounting medical bills, hotel fees, transportation costs, and the living costs associated with receiving treatment away from home. Her SHSM friends in the Pacific Northwest have asked that we all lean in to help (as no contribution is too small).

Her family's story

Over the past year, Mikki's daughter has been actively receiving inpatient and outpatient treatment at a local Children's Hospital. The hospital is a 3-hour drive from their home in Washington State, requiring overnight hotel stays and gas money to fuel roundtrip travels multiple times per week. The family is living in Washington for her husband's military career, requiring him to be deployed until September. Mikki's extended family (and support system) is nearly 2,000 miles away in her native Texas, placing an overwhelming burden on her as sole provider and coordinator.

In addition to the emotional toll, the situation is heavily draining both physically and financially. To care for her daughter, Mikki has taken an unpaid leave from work and is navigating this largely on her own.

While she would never ask, SHSM Washington asks that we come together to offer our emotional and financial support to help cover the immense costs of treatment, commuting, and living outside the home. Something as small as paying for gas or a coffee will go a tremendous way.
