Shwe Taung Tan Monastery & Orphanage
Donation protected
The orphanage is in need of a generator, printer, computers, books, tuition for the older kids to go to university, first aid medical supplies, toothbrushes and soap.
The story:
The Shwe Taung Tann Monastery & Orphanage in Ayetharyar, Myanmar opened in 1991 and is home to over 400 children ranging in ages from 6 months to 14 years old. They do not receive any assistance from the government and run entirely from donations and volunteers. The monks and volunteers who run the orphanage house, clothe, feed, and educate the children, and then pay the tuition fees for them to attend university. Most of the volunteers who come to teach the children also grew up in the orphanage.
The monks pay for the kids to go to university which costs $2,000 USD per year, and we are creating a scholarship fund to support them.
Most of the high school aged kids don't know how to use a computer. The orphanage has 15 computers, but only enough power to run 1 computer at a time. The generator will provide the electricity needed to run the computers, and the additional computers will be used to teach the kids the computer skills they need to be successful.
We are starting the orphanage's first library with everything from storybooks to textbooks. In order to find a good job, the kids need to learn English and know basic computer skills.
The wet, humid environment and lack of basic hygiene products like soap contribute to the prevalence of scabies and fungal infections among the kids. The orphanage is also in need of first aid supplies, medical supplies and soap to treat and prevent the spread of these infections and treat cuts and scrapes.
All of the money donated will go to help these displaced children. Thank you so much for your support!
