Si Spencer Memorial & Funeral - Know You Are Loved

Donation protected
Si's sudden passing has left everyone who loved him stunned, his lovely wife Colleen is understandably devastated.
I first met Si through Nostalgia & Comics in Sheffield in the 80's, I was Saturday girl and my boyfriend now husband (Dean Ormston), worked part time in the shop. Si was a regular customer, he was friendly, generous, funny and very intelligent. Many happy hours were spent in the Frog & Parrot and Broadfield pubs discussing music, art, philosophy, super hero titles that would make good condom names, he was great company.
Si then met the love of his life, the beautiful and brainy Colleen, 'it started with a kiss', it was a perfect match, they were made for each other.
Sadly for us Si and Colleen moved from Sheffield to London, Yorkshire's loss, the Lord Clyde Quiz night's gain.
I won't list all of Si's writing achievements, you know about them already but he did like to spread himself across the genres, he wrote novels, plays, t.v (Eastenders, Grange Hill) and of course he wrote comics. He worked for 2000AD, DC  and he was editor for Deadline just to name a few. Both Dean and myself collaborated with him on various projects, the most notable being Books of Magic and Bodies for Vertigo, he was great to work with, always inventive, thoughtful and supportive to the artists.
Anyone who knew Si knows that he was a social animal, he once had a heated debate with Dean in a London pub, a concerned passer by asked what they were arguing about, me and Colleen said in unison 'the immune system', you got a better class of pub banter with Si.
Several people have asked if I'm going to do a collection for Colleen, she shouldn't have to think about money while she's coming to terms with this nightmare, hence this fundraiser.
It's such a shame that because of the restrictions Colleen will not be surrounded by the people who love her and Si won't get the send off he deserves. Dean has suggested that it would be a lovely gesture and very appropriate, if we all donate the money we would have spent on beer reminiscing about Si at his funeral to help make Colleen's life a bit easier financially.
Colleen is also hoping to have a Memorial in August for Si's 60th birthday (restrictions permitting), so we can all say good bye properly and tell each other stupid stories about him. We'll keep you posted.
The arts community has lost one of it's stars, he was a husband, a friend, a writer, an amazing singer, a feminist and an all round good bloke.
