Sid's Lifesaving Surgery

Please meet Sid!
Sid is the amazing cat of the equally amazing Christy Moschopedis.
Those in the Chilliwack area may know of Christy from the work she does for the cats in our community through FCM Community Cat Trappers and the Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven. Christy has given so much time, love, and support to so many cats and cat owners.
This time it's Christy's own cat, Sid, who needs help and we want to show Christy our support.
Last year, Sid, who is just 6 years old, was diagnosed with Chylothorax with no known cause. Chylothorax is a rare and serious disease in which the pleural cavity overfills with lymphatic fluid or chyle, affecting Sid’s ability to breathe.
With support from the amazing team at Cheam View Veterinary Hospital and Dr Kelly O'Blenis, Sid's condition has been managed locally through medication and supplementation along with xrays and 6 minor surgical procedures to drain the fluid that builds up in Sid's chest cavity, giving Sid relief for several months at a time.
Unfortunately, Sid's condition is now worsening. Sid's chest cavity was drained on November 24 and has already refilled with fluid. To maintain his wellbeing, Sid will now need a tube installed in his chest for regular draining — but this is risky, leaving him open to infections, and most importantly, it does not cure or address the underlying issue.
To correct this condition permanently, Sid needs to be referred to a veterinary specialist for an operation called a Thoracic Duct Ligation (TDL). This is a costly surgery that not many people could easily shoulder alone. At this time, we are waiting on an official quote for surgery which we will share when available. But preliminary estimates ballpark the cost at $8000 or more.
Christy loves Sid with all her heart and we want to help keep that relationship going strong for many years to come.
Christy has saved and improved the lives of so many cats and helped countless owners through their own difficult times… now it’s our turn to give back to her. And we want everyone who has been touched by Christy’s kindness and generosity to have the opportunity to help her too.
Donations can also be made in Sid & Christy's name directly to Canada West Veterinary Specialists or to Cheam View Veterinary Hospital. Any donations in surplus of the goal will go to helping cats in our community.
Thank you
