Sigma Chi's 12th Annual DR Service Trip
Donation protected
For 12 years, over 180 brothers from the Gamma Pi Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity have participated in a 14-day service trip to Don Juan, Dominican Republic. Over these past years, we have built a church as well as over 250 outhouses according to US Peace Corps specifications. During this time, we have also contributed approximately $100,000 to the local economy for supplies, housing, food, transportation, and carpentry supervision. Additionally, the brothers of the Gamma Pi Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity have continued to build on the same bonds of international friendship since 2000 with host families, workers, and community members.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those in the world who were already less fortunate have become significantly more disadvantaged through a lack of jobs, medical supplies, adequate housing, and proper sanitation. In light of the pandemic, which has placed an impediment on our ability to make a positive impact in person, we feel morally obligated to share the bonds of Friendship, Justice, and Learning now more than ever.
Our goal is to host a virtual international service trip, and use the resources to continue our 12 years of service with new and creative opportunities of building 20 outhouses, providing income for local residents, engaging with local families, and supporting the local school.
To date, Brothers of the Gamma Pi Chapter have contributed over $2,000, and we are looking to match this amount with your kind donations.
Thank you for your consideration; thank you for supporting those who need it most—our brothers and sisters in the Dominican Republic!
