Please Help Our Family Rebuild After Huge Typhoon
Donation protected
Hello, everyone. Thank you for reading our story. My name is Scott and my wife and I, Edna, live in Philadelphia, PA.
On December 16 & 17, 2021, Typhoon Rai, or Odette, the strongest, by far, typhoon to hit the Philippines this year ravaged the southern portion of the Philippines, especially the islands Leyte and Bohol. It killed many people and left a devastating path of destruction.
Much of my wife's family, my in-laws, live on those islands and experienced a particularly hard-hitting branch of that storm. We have recently learned that none of our family were seriously hurt, for which we are thankful.
The power is out, and people there are being told it will take at least 2 - 3 months to have it restored.
In addition to the power outage, there was massive damage to peoples' houses and farms. Roofs were ripped off or crushed by falling trees and flying debris, farm animals were killed, crops were destroyed, vehicles were destroyed, all kinds of property was ruined. Our family is and will be hard pressed to garner enough food to feed everyone for the foreseeable future due to the crop devastation, on which they depend to a large degree.
The Philippines does not have social services such as, for example, FEMA, and almost any kind of official government relief efforts are hard to come by and tend to focus on public structures such as roads, etc.
Our people in our family in the Philippines are hard working and poor and they do their best in times like these to help each other, and of course my wife and I do what we can to help. But their and our resources are far too insufficient to give them all the help they need to feed themselves and their children and rebuild.
The need is for money to buy food, help rebuild their humble homes and farms, and small generators.
Thank you so much for reading our story. If you are able to afford any kind of assistance for these folks, it would be infinitely appreciated by them and by us. If you cannot, thank you for reading our story and for your good thoughts and prayers.
