UPDATE
We would like to share a very heart-felt thank you to everyone who reached out and also to those who went above and beyond in their efforts to ensure Sylvia recovers comfortably. She is doing so much better and is back to her normal self, aside from the occasional leg pain. There aren’t words to express the gratitude we feel for everyone who donated. There was a therapeutic relief in seeing her overcome with emotion as I updated her on each contribution that rolled in. Again thank you to everyone in the Neighborhood, in The District and those who have moved away and still held Silvia in the warmest thoughts. Happy Holidays to everyone and thank you for making this year a little brighter !
On July 8, my 74 year-old mother was randomly attacked at the Safeway on Columbia Road. The assault continued where she was punched, kicked and even struck with the attacker’s shoe. Her injuries required an emergency room visit. A week later she can still barely walk, with bruises and welts sustained on her legs and lower body.
Silvia has lived in the Adams Morgan community for 40 years, operating a number of second-hand business in that time. She is an Original who has always shown kindness and generosity to strangers and friends alike, often putting the needs of others before her own.
I am very appreciative to the community who have made calls in support of her full recovery in this unfortunate time. Any donation will go toward assisting her in meeting her monthly bills. Thanks.
