Simon's Top Surgery Recovery

Hello! My name is Simon. I am 19 years old (almost 20!), a psych major at the University of Kentucky, and perhaps most relevant in this situation, a transgender man. For the past four years, I’ve researched and taken every legal step I can to be a happier me, including starting HRT. I am now entering what I consider to be the last major decision of my transition: top surgery. 


I am lucky enough to have found a surgeon in the state that accepts insurance, or at least that’s what I’ve been told. Not only that, but I managed to arrange a date a lot sooner than I expected, so let’s just say I was not financially prepared. My next appointment with my surgeon is on May 7, with surgery following soon behind. What I sheepishly ask of all of you wonderful people is some extra support for when I go through recovery. I’ve stretched my stimulus check as far as it will go, yet I still have a few months of bills and travel expenses (hotel, gas, food) to look forward to. I will not be able to work for a while after surgery and even finding a place to hire me amidst these circumstances has been difficult. 


I hate asking for money and I certainly would’ve avoided spending absolutely anything had I known my surgery date would be this soon. I just need some support to get by on until I move onto campus this fall. Thank you for taking the time to read this, even if you aren’t able to donate.
