Single Father with Colon Cancer up against it all
Donation protected
Hi my name is Chris, I'm a single father of three, currently undergoing chemo therapy after surgery in late April. I was diagnosed (stage 2 Colon Cancer) earlier this year after that wave of Covid hit everyone in Feb. I got Covid and noticed while I was sick with covid my stomach hurt and got it checked out and the doctor found a perferated Diverticulitis in sigmoid area of Colon.
I thought well I'll just change my diet but a month later, I did my colonoscopy and they found Cancer right beside the Diverticulitis. They took out my sigmoid part of colon, also part of my bladder and small intestines and 35 lymph nodes. I woke up to a colostomy bag, a jp drain on otherside of pelvis, 35 stamples in my stomach, a catheter which was in for 3 weeks and incubation tube down my throat, which I was choking up because it was coiling up in my throat. Talk about waking up into a nightmare.
I thought raising three kids (currently 19, 6 and 4) was tough in it self but now having had cancer or surviving cancer (hoping it doesnt come back), going through chemo and being on state disability has been extremely challenging. I dont receive any help from thier mother for last three years (she hasnt even see them in person). I actually have a criminal protection order against thier mother and a separate restraining order for the kids and their big sister has a criminal protection order against her.
It has been a rough couple of years. Still finishing up court in a trail in October. As one can imagine, lawyers fees has been north of $20k and now being on disability, limiting my income has put even more financial stress on me trying to afford doc bills, my daughters preschool tuition and just buying groceries. I've tried to keep my kids life active and as it has been before getting cancer and being off work since late April of this year. My magnificent son CJ has Karate and soccer now. And my beautiful daughter Lilly has dance and soccer as well. My oldest has moved out on her own and is thriving on her own after moving closer to me and helped out while I was in hospital and after being released.
We are a family that likes to do things together, go explore on a hike, ride bikes at the park, swim in the pool, go to beach. All I want is to continue to be the father my kids deserve and try everyday to be better for them. I've been optimistic all my life, no matter what has happened in it, which I could likely write a whole book about. I've always looked on the positive side. God wanted my attention and wanted me to slow down for a reason and I'm taking this time to slow down and pour time into my kids and myself. So once I'm put back together hopefully in December this year (I have a stoma and colostomy bag, also developed a hernia now) I can get back to work and continue to raise my kids with my new lease on life.
Thank you for reading, my bad if I rambled on. Stay positive and thank you for whatever you can spare, or if you can't spare anything a simple share on any number of social media's will suffice. Aside from seeking help for my family and self, I like to use my experience to wake up those that may be putting off or procrastinating getting check ups (like I was with being wrapped up in my kids daily lives and work and so on) and bring awareness that all this can be helped if spot early on. Thank you, I appreciate you all.
Funds will be used to pay down hospital bills I still owe, also health insurance and benifits that I owe my job which is ever climbing past $3k now, and making sure I can afford my kids daily lives with school and thier activities.
