Thank You For Giving Esteban The Gift of Peace

On March 13th at 1:45AM, Esteban took his final breath.

He passed away peacefully, surrounded by love. In his final moments, we were singing his favorite songs, playing the guitar beside his bed. Myself (Daniel), his sister Camila, my girlfriend Litrese, our close friend Ian, and his other best friend Jin sat around him in joy, singing until his spirit left gently and quietly. There was no pain, no suffering—just peace.

That morning, the room remained filled with love. We continued singing around him, and holding his hands. When the funeral team arrived, I carried his body out of the house with Ian, just as Esteban would have wanted—carried by his brothers.

A week later, we held a celebration of his life with all his family and friends. We filled the room with memories, laughter, and music. We gave speeches, shared stories, and danced like Esteban would have—without restraint, with joy, and with love. A live band played his favorite Colombian songs, and we all followed along, just like he taught us. It wasn’t a funeral. It was a send-off. And it was beautiful.

Though Esteban is gone, his legacy lives in all of us. It lives in his strength, his humor, his resilience, and the way he made us feel. It lives in the generosity of the hundreds of people who gave—so he wouldn’t be alone. Your support allowed Carolina to be with him every single day of his final chapter. You gave her the peace of mind to stop working, to be a mother fully and completely, and to say goodbye without the crushing weight of financial fear.

That is what you gave us. That is what you gave him.

We will never be able to express how much that means.
