Single mother needs new roof to save family home.

Eliana's roof has been in disrepair for more than a decade. Her mother tried to have the roof replaced before her passing, but the contractor took off with her money. After Eliana's mother passed in 2013, she returned to her childhood home in Highland Park. That same year Eliana became a single mother to her now 16-year-old daughter. After moving in, she discovered the extent of the damage from the leaking roof. Eliana received estimates for replacing the roof, but the cost was more than she could afford.
Eliana has tried to get help from numerous programs and organizations in Michigan but has been unable to get any assistance to replace the roof. Many of the programs she applied for had waiting lists for over three years and have given her the runaround, which has caused additional frustrations.
Eliana's childhood home has been in her family for nearly 50 years. Her parents bought the home when she was only a few months old. Her father worked as a Journeyman for General Motors and was a master welder. Her mother was an avid gardener; as a child, Eliana and her brother would play in the backyard and snack on the strawberries and sunflowers that her mom planted. There are a lot of beautiful memories in this home, and she would love to create more memories here with her daughter.
From the homeowner:
"It would mean so much to my daughter and me if Rehab Highland Park and its community partners would help me with the replacement of my roof. As a single parent, it's hard, but my mom left me this home that has so much character and charm that the modern homes of today don't have. Highland Parkers like myself want to have hope that this city will be what it used to be or better. I want to honor my mother by repairing this home to what she would have wanted and what I want for myself."
Thank you
Eliana E.
