Aloha, I am Dustin Reynolds, a Guinness World Record holder, recognized as the first double amputee to successfully sail solo around the world.
Nearly two years have passed since I completed this remarkable journey, primarily funded through crowd-funding support. Since returning from my international expedition, I have dedicated myself to finding meaningful ways to give back to those who supported my voyage and the global cruising community. I've engaged in school speaking engagements, contributed to friends' sailing endeavors, and assisted my local community whenever possible. However, I yearn to do more.
My latest endeavor centers around preparing a world-cruising yacht for disaster relief missions and as a platform for educational, film, and research initiatives. I believe I have identified the ideal vessel, which interestingly is not far from my own backyard – albeit, on a neighboring island located approximately 100 miles away.
Undertaking a project of this magnitude demands substantial time, effort, and financial resources. Fortunately, I am well-positioned in the first two aspects.
I have secured a generous mooring donation close to my residence, facilitating convenient boat work. What truly sets this project apart, however, is the incredible community that surrounds me. They stood by my side through a life-altering accident that resulted in the loss of my arm, leg, and financial independence. This same community continued to support me throughout my 7.5-year solo circumnavigation, equipping me with the skills and credibility to transform my new project into a reality.
Yet, the most significant distinction is that I am no longer merely setting records. I now have the privilege of sharing this journey with my community and steadfast supporters.
While the necessary permits may take some time to acquire, I intend to utilize this period to offer sailing experiences here in Hawaii. Donors are encouraged to inquire about potential sailing excursions in Hawaii or projects they envision coming to fruition.
Therefore, rather than simply expressing gratitude, I extend an invitation once again for your support in this ambitious project.
