Sita and Pups Rescue Project

Donation protected
I met Sita, her puppies, and Nandi in Bangalore/Bengaluru, India the week of 17-Jan-16.  I'd seen Sita, a walking skeleton, roaming the street for 2 weeks, but by Day 14, it was clear she would not survive the week without regular meals.  Her teats were swollen, but she was bones.  If she died, her puppies would likely follow her to the grave.   I had been around for 2 weeks and watched her grow thinner.  No one else was going to help.  How could I know this and walk away?

I bought some street food and followed mama dog, who had slipped away.  Amazingly, she came when I called after her, "Tsk Tsk Tsk....Doggie?  Tsk Tsk Tsk...Doggie?" Skittish at first, she approached the food I offered her only after I set it down and stepped back.  She was starving, but ate delicately.  Feeling emboldened by my rabies vaccinations, I reached out to pet her forehead between her brows.  The starving mama dog stopped eating, closed her eyes, bowed her head, wagged her tail, and won my heart.  This gentle lady was vulnerable, but able to trust and receive love.  Over the week, I sought her out while on my daily walks to feed her and she led me to her puppies.  She let me pet her and them, even when they were nursing from her.  I had also seen her turn into a mama bear to bark away other stray dogs that wandered too close to her den, which was located at the intersection of a busy street.  Through her own virtues, the name of Sita found her.  Sita, the Hindu goddess of feminine virtue.

Since 17-Jan-16, I have coordinated with a team of volunteers to organize the rescue of Sita, her 2 surviving puppies (now named Kumar and Vindaloo), and a 4th dog that had adopted me shortly after I adopted Sita:  Nandi.  Like Sita, Nandi was a young mama dog, but Nandi's pups were on their own already.  Nandi would wait for me at the doorway of shops, and follow me down the street day after day, wanting to play tag or be pet.  The loyalty of her spirit reminded me of Nandi, Krishna's bovine companion.

I posted a couple of pictures on facebook about feeding the pups, and my animal-loving friends and family inspired me to follow my heart to give these dogs a better life.  These dogs seemed to bring out the best in people, and I wanted to provide them a good home complete with medical insurance and a full retirement plan.  Some very kind people with big hearts in lovely Bangalore/Bengaluru and Electronics City have cheerfully given their services to help this cause.

The Voice of Stray Dogs (VOSD) picked the 4 dogs off the street with a help of local volunteers.  While being fostered by VOSD, the dogs began their veterinary care on 2/2/16, including vaccinations and spaying perIndian and U.S. regulations.  Anvis Pet Relocation will coordinate their travel itinerary with the help of Inder Sandhu (a former US Animal Control Officer) to bring the 4 puppies to their forever homes in Portland, Oregon, USA.  Sita and Nandi will find their forever home with me, but 2 pups are available to loving homes where they will be spoiled rotten.  (Note:  VOSD, See Anvis Pet Relocation, and Peedu's People sites on fb. Greatest apologies for the former link!)

The costs associated with relocating Sita, Kumar, Vindaloo, and Nandi will primarily be veterinary bills and transportation.  The remainder of funds raised will be donated to the kind organizations that have not asked for any compensation whatsoever:  VOSD, Anvis Pet Relocation, and Inder Sandhu.  Nandi will come to her forever home with me in March, followed by Sita, Kumar, and Vindaloo in May.  The puppies will not be ready for export until May, so we have decided to let Sita enjoy this time with her babies.

The true costs of veterinary bills and transportation are being provided with receipts for services.  Veterinary care for the pups in India is also cost effective.  Costs are based on the estimates available to me on 7-Feb-2016, the date that I created this site.  Two people have expressed interest in being puppy owners if no one else steps forward.  Therefore, I am taking names for alternate potential homes.

Also: Please note that this is not a money-making endeavor for me. Any money raised is going to the organizations that have helped the dogs, most of which habe not asked for any money but have provided valuable services and time out of the spirit of helping these dogs.  Any monies not raised will be covered by me, including future medical, dental, food, housing, and training expenses.

HUGE THANK YOUS AND BLESSINGS TO ALL THAT HAVE OFFERED ENCOURAGEMENT, HELP, AND MONEY!
