SIUC AITP Web Development Team 2017

We are the SIUC Web Development Team competing at the Association for Information Technology Professionals' (AITP ) National Collegiate Conference and Career Fair  (NCC) during April, 2017.  As part of the competition, we are working (outside regular class schedules) to build a web application for a nonprofit group on the campus of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  We are using the agile Scrum approach to manage the project.

We are students in the Information Systems Technologies major in the School of Information Systems and Applied Technologies within the College of Applied Sciences and Arts at SIUC. We take on this extra load because we love to learn new technologies and further develop our skills prior to graduation.  The project begins in September, 2016, with deliverables throughout the fall and spring semesters. The project culminates with a formal presentation to be judged at the AITP NCC in St. Louis in April.

In addition to the year-long web development project, we also compete in other events during the NCC, such as database design, security challenge, and others. Our member, Cody Lingle, won last year's Security Challenge!

The funds we raise will help pay the $325 registration fee for each team member and our faculty advisor. Since some competitions run late into the evening, we will stay one night in a hotel in St. Louis. The funds will cover our transportation, lodging, and meal expenses that are not included in the conference registration.  Additionally, funds will help pay for the poster required at the competition and team t-shirts. Our goal is to have the trip funded by March 1, 2017, in order to take advantage of the reduced early registration fee.

This will be the third year that a Web Development Team has competed in the AITP NCC. Three of our members, Cody, Lee, and Ren, competed on the 2015/2016 team. Both the project work and the NCC experience are great opportunities for us as students, e.g. last year Lee was offered a summer internship with a national company as a result of his participation.  Additionally, it is important to represent SIUC at a major conference.

We hope you can help! We will be forever grateful, and we will post results back here so that our supporters can see that their donations were put to good use! Thank you in advance for your support!
