SJHA Fire Remediation Fund

Tax deductible
South Jersey Homeschool Association, a registered 501(c)3, exists to fill a vital need in the Homeschool Community. We were started as an inclusive “one stop shop” for homeschooling, providing support to families choosing to home educate their children.

Our mission was to provide a community and resources to families of all configurations and beliefs. SJHA aims to provide non-religious and inclusive opportunities to the home educating community. We are the largest, fastest growing, secular homeschooling community in Southern New Jersey- serving over 700 families. Additionally, we now operate a large almost 4000 sq ft community center where students come together regularly to learn and grow.

Many of you may know the the Voorhees Town Center (previously the Echelon Mall) suffered a fire last Friday, April 19th, 2024. The fire was contained to the food court area, but soot coverage has affected the entire mall, including our facility. Soot is something that needs to be professionally cleaned, otherwise it can be dangerous to handle.

We have been working with our insurance company as well as the Voorhees Town center to ensure proper remediation. At this time, as the fire was not initiated on our property or due to the actions of a representative of SJHA, the liability falls on the Voorhees Town Center and appropriate leasees.

Unfortunately, we have not received payment/insurance information from our landlord and we have been unable to proceed with remediation of the center. Due to the lack of communication from our landlord, we no longer feel that this location is the best option for us.

It will cost an estimated $60,000 to do the following action items:
  • Remediate the soot/smoke damage to our belongings and replace all unusable items.
  • Pack and transport our items
  • Secure a new location
  • Seek legal guidance

We will need to make payments up front in order to move forward with remediating our belongings, so that we can reopen and continue to provide valuable services to our community.

Any funds raised will go directly to restoring our community center. If we are able to secure reimbursement from our landlord, we will use the reimbursement to directly further our mission with: scholarships, accessibility, and aiding in affordability.

Thank you for your continued thoughts during this challenging time.
