SUPPORT DESDAMONA WITH HER MEDICAL COSTS

Donation protected
UPDATE FROM DES: 10/16 "Hi everyone - I am here to post an update on my situation but first, I am overwhelmed at the level of support I have received since my injury last Thursday. So many people have offered support and I’ve already had home visits with a few people who helped with laundry, dishes, vacuuming and taking the trash and recycling out. Oh, and feeding me! To wake up this morning to see that the campaign has hit the halfway mark brings tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to be a part of this community that is the Twin Cities. Even those of you who have a loyalty to one city or the other, you really know how to come together for someone. I always think of this place as one city with 2 hearts, and the outpouring of love and support is overwhelming.

As for my next steps … lol. I made an appointment this morning and the soonest they can get my in is the 27th and I learned that they did not put in an order for an MRI but instead they want me to see an orthopedic specialist first. That means, if things don’t improve between now and then, I won’t be working much for another week. I’m currently not in a lot of pain but need the crutches to get around my place and still need to be careful how I move or there is sudden intense pain. Keeping my leg slightly bent is the most comfortable position and the knee stabilizer they put me in caused a lot of pain so I have not been wearing it. Whatever is going on in there seems to be at the back of my knee and feels deep in the center. There is sometimes some pain on both the outer and inner side of my knee area but I’m being careful not to overdo it and all this help I’ve had has taken a lot of stress off of me.

I’ll continue to send updates as things develop and I thank you all so much for your care, kindness and generosity."

Recently, Desdamona received a major honor downtown in Minneapolis for her continued service to hip-hop, the poetry community and the educational system in the Twin Cities! As a Twin Cities Hip Hop Icon, Des has also been very open about her MS diagnosis and the impact on her body, her mind and her career. If you don't know, Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage or deterioration of the nerve fibers.

Community, Desdamona REALLY needs our help now to help with medical and living costs while she overcomes new and ongoing health challenges!

Two days ago after an open mic, Des was headed to her car and she stopped in her tracks because she heard a popping sound coming from her leg. Her leg buckled under her and she almost fell straight down but there was a railing she was holding onto. She tried to take a next step and there was excruciating pain. She couldn't put any weight on her leg and as she says "this is my good leg." It was raining and she was soaked and lucky for her MaLLy was there and he came and helped her to his car and took her to the ER at Regions.

In the ER she got looked at by by a whole staff of doctors and got an x-ray which everyone knew wasn't going to show a broken bone. They then told her it could be her ACL or MCL but it could be other things and we won't know for sure until she gets an MRI.

Your donations will help cover her health costs for things like wheelchair or walker, in-home living assistance with cleaning, transportation, and living expenses and take care of financial costs that her insurance won't cover.

Can you help me raise the necessary funds to cover these costs for Des? Let's give this queen some piece of mind and the ability to rest and heal! She has done so much for us, for our community and for so many young people!!
