Sky Kaya Nez Funeral Memorial Expenses

Donation protected
Da’go’teeh! Hello, we the family of our recently departed elder brother Sky Kaya Nez, welcome your good thoughts, prayers and donations, as we prepare & lay our dear loved one to rest. ➕

In July of 2021, right before we lost our mother Phoebe Lee Nez to liver & ovarian cancer, our brother Sky became severely ill. He needed to be put on dialysis. Sky was not diabetic, but had been suffering from a kidney disease, since he was a child. The disease was not fully known until a year or so prior to 2021. Sky did tolerate the dialysis for several months and seemed to do fine with some tiredness after each treatment. Then Sky became really really sick, experiencing low blood pressure, great lethargy & confusion. It was discovered he was suffering with a horrible blood infection, sepsis. In addition, he encountered wounds to his feet, which never completely healed. — Sky became paralyzed in his legs from a stay in a Phoenix hospital after surgery in 2012 and he learned to walk again, with the use of braces and canes.

The hardships of dialysis with several bouts of sepsis, low blood pressure & his foot wounds slowly healing, began a cycle for him, in which he battled for months to come. Sky had been hospitalized since early 2022, and he entered several hospitals & rehabilitation facilities to aid his recovery in Globe, Chandler and Mesa, Arizona. Sky did come home a few times, but needed constant care in the hospital to maintain his dangerously low blood pressure, dialysis, & wound care.

On Monday, November 7th, the medical team at Chandler Regional became quite concerned with Sky’s state. He’d been super lethargic & sleepy for over a week, wasn’t responding too well to his dialysis treatments, had a new catheter inserted for such treatment, & his blood pressure wasn’t stabilizing with the maximum medication to raise his levels. Late Monday evening, Sky had to be put on a breathing machine. The intensive care unit nurse called at 6 AM on Tuesday morning, to inform the family that Sky was declining, entering his last stages of life, and that our family needed to quickly make the four hour drive to be with & see Sky one last time… .

Our family loves Sky so much and we miss him immensely. He means so much to a lot of us. He’s been a wonderfully great example & leader for family and friends. His kindness and talents have helped so many of us. The Nez family lost our little brother Dustin Hosteen Nez to a tragic vehicle accident in 2003. Our father Oliver Tinker Nez passed away in May 2020 to COVID. Our mother Phoebe Lee Nez passed away from complications of cancer in July 2021. Now the oldest Nez child, Sky Kaya joins them. These last three years have been strenuous in so many ways on the Nez & McReynolds families.

This is a time for anyone to financially help our family, especially for Sky’s funeral expenses… With Sky’s hospital & rehab stays, he unfortunately had his wallet stolen from him twice and his cellphone stolen once. We still have not recovered his wallets or cellphone.

Sky’s funeral service has been set for Monday, November 14th in Show Low, AZ at the downtown chapel - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a viewing from 9 AM - 12 PM, (please wear a face mask), & graveside service at 1 PM. He requested to be buried by his mother and father at the Show Low Cemetery.

If you have any questions, please contact myself, Olivia Niki McReynolds, or my brother Darin Kimo Nez.

All our love, prayers and thanks❣️ Until we meet again… Gozholeht ➕
