Skyline Wrestling Room Revamp Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
My name is Jake Runge, and I am a Life Scout in Troop 305 and the Skyline High School Wrestling Team Captain. I am raising funds to aid in my Eagle Project. My project will benefit Skyline High School and the Skyline Wrestling Team.
The Skyline Wrestling Team is a severely underfunded program. We have one room the size of the mat with no wall pads and very little space to put our things while we practice. After our season, our team has to roll up the mats so other groups can use our room. Without the use of the room, we can't do conditioning before the season starts or run an off-season Freestyle wrestling program. My project will be to pad the walls in the wrestling room (reinforcing the walls first) and build storage cubbies along one of the walls.
My project will benefit the Skyline High School Wrestling team and the Athletic Department. My project is needed because it will make the room safer and more functional. Right now, without the padded walls, injury is likely during practice and competition. I have been thrown into a wall during a meet, and it's not something I would like to experience again. In addition, the cubbies will provide storage in the room for students' personal items. Right now, the only place we can put our possessions is on the floor where there is limited space. Overall, the revamp of the room will help make us a stronger and more competitive team and provide a better opportunity for the program to recruit and grow.
Since I am not a registered non-profit organization, the donations can not be used for tax deductions. However, any extra funds will be donated to the Skyline Wrestling Team.
I chose this as my Eagle Project because I am very compassionate about the sport of wrestling, having gone to the state championships twice and supporting people in the sport whenever possible. It would mean a lot to me, Skyline wrestling, and wrestling in Oakland as a whole.
I started in scouts with Cub Scout Pack 296 in 2010 and have been an active member ever since. I joined Troop 305 in 2015 and have been a Den Chief, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader, and I am now the Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for my Troop. By the time I complete this project, I will have earned 35 merit badges, gone to 8 weeks of summer camp, completed more than 270 nights of camping, been to Northern Tier High Adventure Base, and participated in the 24th World Scout Jamboree. As a scout, this project is my final step toward Eagle, and I need all the help I can get.
Thank you for your time and support,
