SLEEPYHEAD - Remember me?
Hello!
This is my last semester at SDSU along with a few other of my classmates and we are producing a short film for our thesis project titled Sleepyhead. We have recently been given permission to film during COVID while following safety guidelines, and we are excited to make this production worthwhile. This is a project we all look forward to doing as film majors, as it is an opportunity to potentially gain recognition in film festivals and to get a start in the film industry. Evan Abbott and I are directing Sleepyhead, and we both love horror and psychological thrillers and hope to get a start in the movie industry after graduating to continue making films like this. Evan’s script was carefully selected to go into production, and was one of three scripts out of 14 to be given this opportunity. The whole crew is passionate about this project and excited to use our skills, and we would be extremely grateful for any help to make this vision a reality.
Genre
Horror, Dark Comedy
Synopsis
A woman wakes up in a mysterious room with a man, who is her apparent kidnapper - but doesn't act like one. He attempts to win her heart, asking to watch movies and appeal to her interests, as she subtly tries to escape without offending him. He is a “nice guy”, which he believes himself to be, but is contrastingly keeping this woman against her will. This short deconstructs the nice guy trope, and the victim mentality and dangerous fixation we commonly see in these types of men.
What the $1500 is For
While SDSU provides equipment and studio space for us to film, we must come up with wardrobe, actor transportation, makeup artist cost, crafty services, and set design costs. Student film budgets range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more, and ours has been calculated to be $1,500.
