Sloan Family Support
As many of you know, Heather has been fighting a Stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis since February of 2017. She received 3.5 years of chemotherapy along with breast surgery and radiation in January of 2021. She had been in remission for over 3 years. On June 22nd, the Sloan family received devastating news that Heather’s cancer had spread to her brain. Two lesions in the cerebellum and one in the frontal lobe. Just two days later, she went into surgery to remove as much as possible from the cerebellar lesions before beginning the plan for radiation. Heather has had quite the unexpected and difficult recovery. As it turns out, one of the tumors was very close to the brain stem, and she is not only having the expected difficulties of cerebellar distinction after the surgery, but also difficulties regarding part of her brain stem that has been affected. As we all know, Heather is a fighter and always tackles every challenge with a smile and a positive attitude. As she is still recovering in the hospital, she is working hard with speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy to regain as much independence as possible. She is still struggling with balance and coordination while relearning to walk on her own, and although she knows what she wants to say, she is having a hard time speaking clearly. Doctors are optimistic that she will continue to see improvements in her functions lost, but her road to recovery will be a marathon and not a sprint, and in the meantime, she will need 24/7 care. The Sloan family is dedicated to making sure that Heather has all the love and attention she needs to help her through this incredibly difficult time. Any amount donated will go directly to medical expenses/treatments for Heather, new medical equipment and home modifications needed for after discharge, and household expenses that may build up as the family takes time off work. Heather has dedicated her life to being the best mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend anyone could ask for, by always putting others first before herself. But now, we want to make sure she, and her family, can focus on her and give her as much love, attention and support as possible. The Sloan family is incredibly thankful for everyone’s love and support throughout this time and will make sure to post updates as Heather continues to fight.
