Slumlord Illegal Eviction to Single Mom of Four

My four children and I have been facing significant difficulties for almost two years now, as we haven't had a stable place to live. In the next three days, we will be returning to a hotel because our current home has issues with sewage and mold, making it uninhabitable. We stayed in that place for only five months before the landlord asked us to leave, essentially evicting us. The eviction happened because I held them responsible for not properly addressing the repairs, instead opting for temporary fixes that only made the situation worse over time. Meanwhile, I have been diligently attending school for nearly two years and will be graduating in the spring of 2024. Balancing my academic responsibilities, parenting duties, work, and daily chores like cooking, cleaning, yard work, and trips to the laundromat (as the home lacks proper laundry facilities) has been an immense challenge. They misled me into thinking I would have a washer, but instead placed a hot water tank in its place. Throughout my life, I've experienced numerous hardships, and I'm desperately trying to hold on. Your assistance would mean the world to me. The fact that my children won't have a home for Christmas deeply saddens me, and while I would like to rent an AirBNB for a few months, it's simply beyond my financial means. I feel lost and don't know where to turn for help.
In brief, we initially relocated to Memphis with my ex, and I took on the role of administering his mother's estate. I navigated the management of her assets with the assistance of a lawyer since his family seemed unaware of the necessary steps. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and a combination of greed, infidelity, drugs, and alcohol that I witnessed, I made the decision to leave him in March 2020, coinciding with the onset of the well-known Covid-19 pandemic. The actions exhibited by the entire family, which also exposed his true nature, left me feeling deeply disgusted. At the time of my departure, I was nine months pregnant with three other children, completely unaware of the events that lay ahead. My plans were significantly hindered by the pandemic, and I had to confront the challenges of postpartum while simultaneously managing the abrupt transition of my children to virtual schooling. This further added to the overwhelming load I had to handle, considering the terrifying reality of people falling ill with Covid-19, for which we had limited knowledge at the time. I distinctly recall moments of fear, heartbreak, and profound depression as responsibilities and chores kept piling up while we were confined indoors. It was undoubtedly an overwhelming situation. However, I take great pride in successfully navigating through that period, emerging from it fully a year and a half later.
We had a roof over our heads, and I secured a temporary job at the health department through a grant. Additionally, I resumed my education and enrolled my children near my workplace to ensure easy access during emergencies. As we had no blood relatives in Memphis, we had to create a small community for ourselves. This community provided support beyond what I could have imagined, as I always believed it was my responsibility to handle all of life's challenges without burdening others. Unfortunately, after two years, we discovered that the home we were living in had been abandoned for a decade prior to our arrival. The minimal repairs made to make it habitable began to fail, leading us to break our lease agreement and seek shelter in a hotel. We stayed in the hotel for around 4 1/2 months, constantly surrounded by strangers. Understandably, people can be unpredictable, so my initial goal was to leave the hotel within a month. However, due to the tough housing market in Memphis, finding a suitable home in the desired area proved to be challenging. Being a single mother with no family support in a perilous city like Memphis, and with only a small community to rely on, posed significant challenges.
Last night, I had a dream about the world uniting whenever a black man or woman is tragically killed by police officers. But who will stand together for justice for these children Amarion, Shaunice, Aiyani, & Nova? They have been forced to endure issues with heating and cooling, dealing with extreme temperatures due to a malfunctioning system or no system at all. Let's not forget the presence of mold and raw sewage for over 5 months, while the landlord continues to collect $1200/month without taking proper action. But instead they did patchwork & used the blame game instead of putting it on the floor like a real mf would and fix it. We weren’t even provided a temporary solution like a hotel at no point in time, the landlord unlawfully breached the lease, saying we can return once the issues are fixed. Anyone can allege that someone placed baby wipes and feminine products in the drain, but I possess photographic evidence and proper documentation to support my claim. Other than mere instructions to fabricate stories as a backup plan, they lack any substantial evidence, which will undoubtedly be exposed when city officials investigate. It is obvious from my pictures and documents that someone seriously neglected their responsibility, causing immense inconvenience for me and my children. It is quite clear that it would be highly improbable for a whole sewer system to be clogged within a mere 37 days by just wipes and feminine products as they assert (no photo proof or video proof wouldn’t you document that as a landlord for probable cause to evict?). They have had since May 20th to fix the issues thats almost 5 1/2 months ago and it still wasn’t fixed. We walked in to bs and left due to bs. Who will advocate and ensure justice for these innocent children? So, does this effort for justice have to be driven by gaining clout? The popular vote is all that matters? Shouldn't it be for the sake of the children who could have potentially faced life-threatening circumstances thank god they’ve only been mildly effected, as I lacked the means to break the lease as a single mother of four (a family of five) and move on my own. As do many people in similar situations, silently enduring. I chose to shed light on this issue in order to change the situation not only for my children but for all residents. Just imagine what others might be going through, if this is my experience. Why didn't you just lie like them, my friend asked me? I said in reply, “I was like, for what? I'm not required nor do I have the desire to lie. Perhaps this is just the beginning to open up the doors on them and I'm okay with that if nothing comes of whats going on right now. I don't need to recall a lie because I know I didn't lie. That's all that matters.” My kids and I were fortunate enough to receive a storage unit, a moving crew, and a three-month hotel stay. This has enabled us to concentrate solely on the relocation process and enjoy the holidays. Even though we would prefer to be at home, as long as you have each other…you can make anywhere feel like home An organization stood up and did what they refused to do removing us from the situation all together. This has enabled us to concentrate solely on the relocation process and enjoy the holidays. Even though we would prefer to be at home, as long as you have each other…you can make anywhere feel like home. I am not doing this for clout and I am not doing this for financial gain. I have raised awareness about this company. The reporter is really kind and I am very appreciative that he is still looking into everything as a whole.
