Restoration of Atascadero Lake
Tax deductible
FRIENDS OF ATASCADERO LAKE IS DEDICATED TO THE ONGOING IMPROVEMENT, ENHANCEMENT, UNIVERSAL APPRECIATION, AND ENJOYMENT OF BEAUTIFUL ATASCADERO LAKE. WE ARE COMMITTED TO ASSURING THE WATER QUALITY AND AESTHETICS OF THIS HISTORICAL LANDMARK.
Friends of Atascadero Lake would like to invite you to participate in the restoration of our city’s jewel.
Ongoing Projects Needing Funding
Deep Production Well: This will offset summer evaporation enough for the lake to provide normal recreational opportunities. We have a sponsor willing to pay initial drilling costs. There will be operational and pipeline costs. Approximately $8,000 in matching funds sought.
Wetland Restoration: Long-term lake health will be improved by building a “constructed wetland” area at the shallow south end. This serves several functions including: eliminates nitrates and phosphates, provides a “nursery” area for fish, and habitat for birds, turtles, and other wildlife. Reduces stagnation in the lake as it improves water clarity. Wetland costs may be covered by a combination of grant funds and private donations.
Aeration System: Since oxygen levels decrease during summer heat, contributing to fish die-off, water will be aerated in the deeper north end of the lake by installing lake-bottom circulators, which will help cool and oxygenate the entire lake. Our goal is $20,000.
