Small Bites Nutrition at UF (23-24)

Small Bites Nutrition is a newly registered UF Student Organization dedicated to providing local Gainesville elementary schools with nutrition and cook-along workshops. Each workshop consists of teaching a fundamental nutrition concept (videos, worksheets, and articles provided) by our volunteers and concluding with a simple healthy snack recipe.
Help us raise money for general body meetings, member socials, and workshop materials!
As educated college students who learn more daily about cultures, ethnicities, languages, religions, and geographic origins beyond our own, we acknowledge these factors have incredible impacts on the foods people prepare and enjoy. Food has a strong connection to not only our mental and physical health but also our identity. Despite its importance, areas of food disparity remain prominent throughout the country-especially in our own Gainesville community. We aim to support the youth and conversely the people in our community in achieving healthier diets by addressing health misconceptions, educating about nutritional basics, and demonstrating realistic recipes students can bring back to their families. We by no means aim to demonize certain food groups or types of cuisine, but rather strive to show students ways to incorporate nutritious foods into their lifestyles.
In reality, health outcomes where children, adults, and families face systemic disparity that has shaped their local food systems and resources are minimally within our control. We strive to educate our volunteers on this issue and recruit volunteers from different backgrounds who can help our cause from a place of compassion. This small effort of education can have lasting impacts on our community's health and beyond.
