Smith Family (Brandy Smith)

Donation protected
Brandy is a teacher and coach at Dowell Middle School. She is more importantly a loving and selfless wife and mother to Scott and their three kids Brayden, Bella, and Brody.

She is currently in the midst of her third battle with cancer and is back and forth between MD Anderson in Houston and her home here in north Texas.

I know that we have a community FULL of people that love the Smith family and want to help, so with their consent we decided to set up a way to contribute financially. Brandy will have to miss more school than originally planned to fight this, and we are hoping to bridge that gap to take away any financial stress that may come.

**Brandy is having surgery TODAY, October 18th, 2023 to remove the mass in her abdomen. Please pray with us and consider donating to help their family.**

Here is Brandy’s original post from 2022 with the diagnosis and more information-

“A week before Thanksgiving I had a routine PET scan. The results came back not in my favor. I was glowing in 3 different spots…my left thigh (original spot of my cancer) and 2 spots on my left arm.

Thigh area actually was negative for cancer cells!! Woohoo! But that’s the end of the good news.

Same sarcoma cells are now deep in my left tricep muscle. And I also now have a mass growing between my abdomen and pancreas. Dr’s aren’t sure what it is yet but a very high % that it’s a sarcoma as well.

I start chemo in a week b/c the mass is too big to operate on right now. After the mass has shrunk the Dr’s will talk about surgery.

Prayers for my family!
For them to have to go through this for a 3rd time is devastating.

I am strong and we will get through this just like we did before.

Thank you for all your prayers and encouragement!!”

Update 2/10:

“My sister (Bonnie Taylor) and I have spent the past 2 days down at MD Anderson to get a second opinion and to make sure we were on the right treatment plan. MD Anderson was great and I’m so glad we decided to go. I loved my team of Dr’s. They all specialize in Sarcomas. We found out so much about my cancer that we didn’t know before. The plan has changed a little but no much. Surgery to remove the mass near my abdomen will not happen in March. We will continue chemotherapy with scans after every 2 rounds. If the chemotherapy continues to work we will do that until the masses are shrunk to a manageable size for surgery. At least 6 rounds of chemotherapy in total. I will continue to go to MD Anderson for all scans, surgeries and treatment plans. But will continue to receive my chemotherapy in Plano. My family and I appreciate all support and prayers!! ”

Update 2/13:

“Round 3 of chemo starts today. Specifically need prayers for the fatigue to be mild. This mom of 3 stays busy and I need my energy! ❤️ #stayingstrong”

Update 3/23:
“Scott and I are headed back home from Houston (MD Anderson).

Scans showed that my chemo is working and both my tumors are shrinking and considered stable.

I will continue chemo every 3 weeks. My next appointment at MD Anderson will be in 9 weeks. At that time I will meet with 2 different teams of surgeons to discuss my surgeries.

All of your prayers and thoughts are working. Keep them coming! ❤️”

Thank you in advance for your help in loving and supporting this family!
