Cancer. It sucks.

Day #1 of palliative chemotherapy in January 2017

Two weeks later. Hair? What hair? The eyebrows lasted one more week.

We all have friends and family who have faced this horrible illness.

Six years ago, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophagus Cancer spread through my liver, lungs, and lymph nodes. Chemotherapy. Radiation. Immunotherapy.

Hey C word, never mess with people in Spandex, especially as we ride RAGBRAI, the bike ride across Iowa.

We start on July 24 2022, cycling from Sergeant Bluff to Lansing. RAGBRAI, The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is an annual eight-day bike ride across the state. RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest and longest recreational bicycle touring event in the world. Thousands of us will be celebrating our battle against cancer and other illnesses. Most of us will be in Spandex.

By the way, there is a great story involving Spandex, the C word, and the Eagan Police department. It all happened after my first dose of chemotherapy. The two Eagan officers at our front door were so very very nice.
