Alzheimer's sucks.

It showed up and has taken damn near everything. It has taken a strong, independent man and made him unable to do much for himself. It took away his ability to make a meal or pour a cup of tea. It has taken the ability to recognize that a sock goes on a foot... and that it goes on before a shoe. That's just some of it.

It has demanded sacrifices of me in caring for my husband. I have sacrificed my favorite car, my ability to use the RV, my peace of mind, my focus, my organizational skills, my retirement plans, my satisfaction in life and marriage, my ability to be a good grandmother. I am fighting hard to keep it from taking my career at the early age of 49.

Want to know more, just ask me. I scream it from the mountaintops.

In an attempt to keep working while allowing Ed to be safe and thrive as long as he can, we are moving into assisted living together and selling our house. Remaining in the house and using services for his care is just not reliable and not enough help.

The monthly cost of rent and care will reach over $8000 right away and will likely go above $10,000 a month within three years. The plan is to use the equity in the house to pay off all debt, which has mostly been accrued in home maintenance over the past 5 years and fulfilling Ed's bucket list. All future monthly revenue will go towards rent, care, cell phone, internet, and the occasional meal out.

Given that, I could use some help in getting moved.

I make a deal with you. After $1000 has been raised, the first 20% of any amount raised will go to Alzheimer's research. I'm primarily a caregiver, so I just can't take it all. I can't. So, I will pay it forward. The rest will help to pay for the movers to pack us up and get us settled and to make improvements on the property to allow the house to sell for the top amount that it possibly can (paint, landscaping, carpet, etc.).
