Sofija's Hope: Surgery at Texas Children's

Help Sofija Get the Life-Saving Surgery and Treatment She Needs

Sofija Pranic (2023) was diagnosed with epilepsy at just two months old (G40.1 Idiopathic Epilepsy with Simple Partial Seizures). An MRI of her brain revealed a severe cortical development disorder with characteristics of hemimegalencephaly affecting the right hemisphere, along with a severely disorganized cortex and irregular white matter in the right frontal lobe.

In addition to epilepsy, Sofija has also been diagnosed with cerebral palsy (G80.1 Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy) and tuberous sclerosis (Q85.1 Tuberous Sclerosis).

The family is urgently raising funds for her ongoing treatment and a critical surgery scheduled to take place on July 1, 2025, at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of kind donors from all over the world and the support of charitable programs at Texas Children’s Hospital, the full cost of the surgery itself is now covered — including the remaining balance that was initially out of reach. Sofija’s family is deeply grateful for this outpouring of support.

However, the journey is far from over. Sofija and her family will travel to Houston before the surgery and stay there during her recovery. After the operation, they will need to return to Houston multiple times for follow-up treatments and specialist appointments. Sofija will also require long-term care including physical therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and ongoing consultations.

Additional funds are urgently needed to cover these continuing medical needs, as well as travel and accommodation expenses throughout her treatment journey.
