Help Héctor Recover from a Devastating Accident

Hi, my name is Sofi. I’m originally from Avellaneda, Argentina, and I now live on a farm in Southern California with my dog, Héctor — my best friend and life companion.

Héctor has been with me through some of the hardest moments in my life. I’ve known him since before he was born — his dad, El Oreja, is a legend in my hometown, and his mom, La Gina, was my ex’s dog. I took care of both during the pregnancy and helped bring Héctor and his siblings into the world on September 2, 2018. I chose his name because our previous dog was named Aquiles, and we loved the story of Héctor of Troy.

He’s been with me on every step of my journey — from Argentina to Brazil, and now to the U.S. We’ve taken boats, scooters, planes, and had countless adventures together. When I moved to the U.S., I had to leave him behind temporarily. We were apart for 8 months, and when he finally arrived in California, it felt like I had my heart back.

Yesterday, April 19, Héctor was in a horrible accident involving a farm truck. He suffered a fractured skull, potential brain trauma, and a broken jaw. He can’t stand or sit, but he’s starting to crawl again. The vet initially suggested putting him down, but I couldn’t accept that. I chose to fight for him.

So far, I’ve spent over $7,000 and each day in the hospital costs $1,800. I’ve exhausted my savings and I’m desperate not to lose him just because I can’t afford the care he needs.

Héctor is responding to lights and sounds, he’s breathing on his own, and drinking water. There’s hope — real hope — that with the right treatment, he’ll walk again, play again, and continue to be the joyful, adventurous dog he’s always been.

I’m an immigrant rebuilding my life. I work on a farm and as a tattoo artist on weekends in San Francisco. I’m doing everything I can, but I need help.

Please help me give Héctor the chance he deserves. He’s more than a pet — he’s my family, my heart, my reason to keep going.
