By screening the film "Chopin: I am not Afraid of Darkness," we raise awareness of the plight of refugees, human displacement, and psychological damage from the ravages of war. Sok Foundation is based in Warsaw, Poland. Their mission is to help children, especially in foster care. Since the war in Ukraine began, they focused all their efforts on supporting refugee children evacuated from Odesa's orphanages. SOK runs two large-scale programs teaching teachers how to provide:

Mental and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and,
Teach Polish as a foreign language so Ukrainian children can feel secure and thrive in Poland for however long they will stay. Teacher training is so necessary because they are "first responders" in schools, but until now, they did not need to teach emotional support, deal with children with trauma or teach Polish as a foreign language. SOK Foundation runs the most extensive teacher program, but the need is tremendous.

Over 200,000 Ukrainian children have entered Polish schools. Most of them have no home to return to because of bombs, destruction, and lack of food and electricity. Over 2,000,000 war refugees from Ukraine live in Poland as of October 26th, 2022. Most of them are women and children.

Full training for one teacher, i.e., 20-30 kids, costs $400.
