Little Lupie's Kidney Transplant Fund

Thank you for stopping by the Little Living Lupie's Kidney Transplant Fundraising Page!

My name is Solange Garcia and I am a 24-year-old post grad, with a great sense of humor, a hard head, and big heart, who is in the market for a new kidney!

As some of you may know, I have been battling the mysterious disease, Systemic Lupus Nephritis for almost 10 years and have had two serious bouts of kidney failure over the last 6 years (along with a few flares sprinkled in for good measure). The time has come where my body can no longer compensate for the damage the lupus flares and kidney failures have done. It is time that I prepare for my first kidney transplant.

I currently have 15% of my kidney function and a third episode of kidney failure is fast approaching. My team is working quickly to try and find me a living donor (both my parents have graciously agreed to be tested, as well as a close aunt) and get on the road to transplantation and recovery. As my doctors put it, there is a "rush" on my case because they want to prevent a third bout of failure before transplantation occurs.

I am lucky enough to have medical insurance to cover the surgery itself, but there are a plethora of additional costs that I will personally accrue before and after the surgery. Anti-rejection medications, additional medical bills, tests, food, travel expenses to and from Nashua, New Hampshire to Boston, Massachusetts, and day-to-day living costs will accrue, as I will be taking a leave from my job for this surgery. Additionally, recovery and medical costs don't end after I leave the hospital. I will be monitored regularly for a year after the transplant, two to three times a week initially, with the frequency decreasing after several months (hoping that there are no complications, rejections, or infections that occur).

As you can see this is going to be financially draining, especially for a recent post-grad who has student loan payments quickly approaching as well. I have always supported myself monetarily, but the time has come to humbly ask my friends, family, and support network for help when I need it most. If you are able to gift any amount, large or small, it will be greatly appreciated. If you are in the business of gifting good vibes, prayers, and well wishes, I will gratefully accept those as well!

Thank you for taking the time to read and learn a little bit more about my journey and me!
